Combine different styles of siding for outstanding results

Combine siding materials for outstanding results

Year after year we see an increasing number of cladding options which is great for homeowners.

If you are about to start a siding renovation project, be aware of the number of options which may overwhelm you. At the end of the day you will end up with more questions than answers.

What material is the best option for my house? Can I do a combination of styles and not blow my budget?

The answer will depend on several factors: Your budget, the look you want to give to your house, and the recommendation of the expert siding installer. He can suggest one material or another based for example on the orientation of your house.

Apart from this, the new siding on the facade will provide a fresh, renewed, and highly visible look that can increase the value of your property.

The ABC of mixing styles

Hardie lap siding, one of the most popular cladding styles, is combined with Hardie shingle panels.

Designers, architects and homeowners often combine siding styles and profiles to create an exciting unique result with rich visual interest enhancing the curb appeal of your home.

A siding renovation project brings unique opportunities to transform the look of your home, create a unique and distinctive exterior, regardless of the architectural style of your home. Using a single cladding material can make the exterior appear flat and uninteresting, while a combination of cladding profiles and colors will add depth and visual interest. The good news is that by combining styles, your budget won’t skyrocket.

Siding colors, so many to choose from…

Combination of colors for siding projects

What color to choose for the siding? How can you analyze options that will enhance the appearance of the house? Our suggestion is you analyze the colors of the neighbouring houses. Ask yourself: Is there a common thread or pattern on the neighbours’ houses ? If it exists, we could take advantage and make our house “blend” more harmoniously by integrating it with the neighbouring houses as well as with the environment.

The positive thing about choosing complementing colors is that the neighborhood can feel more integrated, regardless of the architectural style and that contributes to how livable the neighborhood is.

Horizontal and vertical cladding.

We use horizontal lap siding as it’s one of the most popular styles used for the front of the house. Vertical siding is a great way to emphasize height, such as in a two-story home or a chimney. Vertical siding is becoming increasingly popular for contemporary designs to make the home appear taller and less elongated.

For certain areas of the facade we recommend cedar siding. This is commonly applied in gables and other areas of the facade. In contrast, to achieve a more rustic look, cedar siding is the material to go with. As a matter of fact, it can be applied throughout the house.
