Recently a client sent us an email asking us what siding material we recommend for his house in Delta, BC.
We believe the best recommendation a client can receive is made after a meeting with him/her after at the project site. Our project manager met with him to discuss Hardie planks or engineered wood.
In our experience, Hardie products have very clear advantages over engineered wood.
Some of the disadvantages of engineered wood are:
- Water absorption which causes destruction of paint
- Swelling
- Warping
- Dimensionally unstable
- Flammable
- Susceptible to attacks by pests and insects
Engineered wood products suffer from wood’s own weakness as a result from direct exposure to sunlight, ice, UV levels, wind, and rain.
Hardie products’ advantages are:
Many design and color options
Low maintenance
Durability in different types of climates
They resist the spread of flames
They resist the attacks of pests and insects
Paint adheres well even in wet conditions
Siding product line available in all types including lap, shingle, panel, fascia, trim and soffit
The HZ5® product line is recommended for installations of Hardie products in Canada, which means that the products have been specially formulated for this type of climate, guaranteeing resistance to moisture in regions where extreme temperature variations are common.
